Self-Care and Resilience for Church Leaders
The power of self-awareness and the importance of self-care
Church leadership takes resilience and patience. When leaders put intentionality around building a strong foundation in their own personal life by uncovering and discovering more about themselves, they can grow in empathy and compassion toward themselves and others. As leaders build a deeper understanding of themselves through self-awareness, they begin to see the impacts of their patterns of behavior and thought processes as well as their core fears and core desires. Leaders just like all humans are created for connection, yet there are differences in the way people try to do this. The Enneagram offers self-awareness that helps to break down barriers and also helps people get unstuck in their roles and relationships. Self-awareness and connection are essential for mental health, and being understood, seen, and heard moves us to feel celebrated rather than merely tolerated. For leaders to run the race until the end they need community, connection and self-care.
