Behavioral Health Ministry: 5 Reasons Why It’s Your Church’s Most Lasting Impact
The only thing that all factions of our conflicted society agree on is that we are in the midst of a Behavioral Health (BH) disaster. The 3 leading causes of death in the US are Addictions, Suicide, and Abortion and the depression, anxiety, self-harm, hopelessness, loneliness, and process addiction rates are off the chart. People are dying and suffering because the truth is dying. God commissioned the Church to be the guardian, communicator, and role-model of the truth. But in order for the Church to uphold this responsibility, we need to be an effective psychospiritual ER that hurting people can go to. Having a healthy equipped Behavioral Health ministry manned by specially trained psychospiritual coaches or first responders enables us to mobilize these 5 powerful BH impacts: 1. help those in struggling people in the pews, 2. evangelize hurting people in our community, 3. relieve our pastors and ministry leaders of the burden of these messy cases so they don’t burn out and can focus on what they are skilled at, 4. infuses God’s BH DNA into the church’s DNA and thus increase the psychological and emotional IQ of all the church’s other frontline ministries to positively impact those ministry’s staff and those being served, and 5. unleashes the superpower in the pews as hurting people are able to use the comfort they’ve received to comfort and help others.

About Me
I am a Board Certified psychiatrist with a calling to help re-ignite the Behavioral Health Revolution that Jesus - Great Physician + Wonderful Counselor = Perfect Psychiatrist - started. My passion is help people become not just hearers of the word, but doers by integrating psychological science and faith so they can turn Biblical truths into Biblical living. My specialty is decision-making sciences and helping people become consistently more godly decision-makers which harnesses the power of neuroplasticity to renew their mind, transform their life, and walk into the fullness of their God-created potential. I am a writer, speaker, frequent media guest expert on BH and social policy issues, and testify in various US and international legislatures presenting a scientific and Biblical worldview on significant social policy issues including gender, sexual orientation, abortion, physician-assisted suicide, euthanasia, legalization or decriminalization of drugs, suicide, mass shootings, and other pertinent issues that affect well-being and flourishing. I’ve consulted or worked with many national ministries, taught/consulted in Iraq, Uganda, Kenya and last year in Poland. Primary current roles are the founder and medical director of a unique Christian residential facility named Honey Lake Clinic, and the medical director of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), the largest Christian Behavioral Health organization.
